MONTREAL, July 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Louise Harel, the Leader of Vision
Montréal and mayoral candidate, and Benoit Labonté, Leader of the Official
Opposition, announced today the complete team of candidates that will
represent Vision Montréal as our nominees in the borough of Montreal-North for
the November 1st election.
"The team that we are presenting is composed of citizens who are strongly
rooted in their community; they are passionate individuals that know all too
well the reality that exists for those living in Montreal-North. By putting
forth their strong desire to create change, they will enable the population of
Montreal-North to be an active player in the revitalization effort sought by
all. Each of them has achieved, through their own actions and personal
dedication, improvements of the quality of life of their fellow citizens.
There cannot be a real change without citizen initiatives, supported by a
united local administration. Once elected in the borough, they will have the
additional resources needed at their disposal," Louise Harel declared.
A resident of Montreal-North for over 40 years, Daniel Renaud will be the
candidate for borough mayor in the upcoming elections. A well known and
involved community leader, he is currently Commissioner and Vice-president of
the Pointe-de-l'Ile School Board. He is also involved in numerous
organizations within the borough.
Brunilda Reyes, spokesperson for the Solidarité Montréal-Nord movement,
co-founder and General Manager of Les Fourchettes de L'Espoir, will be
candidate for City Councillor in the Ovide-Clermont District. In addition to
being active in federal and provincial politics, Ms. Reyes presides on
numerous councils and committees, notably the CDEC-CLD Montréal-Nord, Table de
concertation Montréal-Nord en santé, and on the administrative council of
1,2,3 GO! Montreal-North.
Guerline Rigaud will be the Borough Councillor candidate in the
Ovide-Clermont District. Active in the field, she has been involved in
socio-community affairs for over ten years. She notably founded Maison Sam X,
an organization that specializes in eliminating illiteracy, teaching computer
skills in addition to professional social integration through sewing and
culture, as well as helping woman and youths in difficulty.
In the Marie-Clarac District, Marc L. Fortin will be the candidate for
City Councillor. Born in Montreal-North, he worked as Political attaché for
Line Beauchamp, Deputy for the Bourassa-Sauvé riding and for Alain Paquet,
Deputy for Laval-des-Rapides. He is involved with numerous organizations in
his district, notably the Entre-Parents organization, Club Optimiste and Club
Richelieu.
A lawyer specializing in business law since 1999, Roland Carrier will be
the candidate for Borough Councillor in the Marie-Clarac District. Mr. Carrier
has also taught law at college level. Presently, he is involved in the
development of a student exchange program between the Institut de Technologie
agroalimentaire (ITA) in La Pocatière and the Quisqueya University in
Port-au-Prince, in collaboration with the Congrès national haitien du Québec.
"Ms. Reyes, Ms. Rigaud and Mr. Renaud, Carrier and Fortin form a team
that will be bound up with the population's aspirations and will be strongly
represented in Montreal's administration. The Vision Montréal team in
Montreal-North will be involved in restoring the bond of trust that should
exist between citizens and their elected officials," Benoit Labonté declared.
"Unlike the current administration, Vision Montréal's candidates in
Montreal-North refuse to ignore the existing problems and have the courage and
the leadership to enact a change, while building upon the strengths that exist
within the borough. The population of Montreal-North is motivated; all they
need is some leadership. Composed of citizens of all origins and from all
socio-economic backgrounds, Montreal-North is a microcosm of social and
cultural diversity that must become a model of social cohesion for the rest of
Quebec," Louise Harel concluded.
